Thomas Murphy has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction for the indecent assault of a teenage girl on the Isle of Man. Murphy had denied four charges of indecent assault, which occurred between March and April 2023. During the sentencing at Douglas Courthouse, Deemster Graeme Cook informed the 24-year-old, “You showed no remorse by pleading not guilty.” Murphy, whose address is Alder Road in Pulrose, Douglas, was additionally placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and issued a sexual offences prevention order valid for a decade. Deemster Cook further stated that Murphy subjected the victim to the “extreme trauma” of a trial. He noted that Murphy’s actions contained “an element of grooming,” despite the absence of specific grooming charges. Deemster Cook remarked, “You would buy her anything she wanted.” The Deemster also emphasized an additional aggravating factor: the “significant gap” in age between the perpetrator and the victim, noting that the victim was under 16 years old while Murphy was in his early twenties at the time of the offences. It was reported that Murphy had “drank a crate of beer” prior to the assault, and the defence advocate indicated that “alcohol was a significant issue.”
