Cardiff City’s efforts to improve their position in the Championship relegation battle against Oxford United are again hampered by injuries affecting Omer Riza’s squad. The Bluebirds aim to secure their first victory in nine league matches during their visit to the Kassam Stadium on 26 December (15:00 GMT). Oxford United has not won any of their last seven games, with only one win recorded in their previous 16 fixtures. However, they anticipate a morale boost from the arrival of new head coach Gary Rowett, who will manage the U’s for the first time in the upcoming match against Cardiff. Conversely, Cardiff’s chances of receiving positive news from their injured players appear low. Manager Riza indicated that Joe Ralls and Callum O’Dowda are “probably doubtful” for the Oxford fixture, having been unavailable for last Saturday’s home loss to Sheffield United. Perry Ng and Ollie Tanner are confirmed absentees, although their participation in Cardiff’s match at Watford on Sunday, 29 December, has not yet been ruled out. Chris Willock’s availability for the two upcoming festive away games is uncertain, following his departure from the Blades loss due to a hip issue. Meanwhile, players such as Aaron Ramsey and David Turnbull continue to be out of action. Isaak Davies and Kion Etete are progressing towards returning to first-team play, having not participated throughout the current season. Additionally, Riza has verified that Jamilu Collins’ absence is due to selection decisions, not a fitness concern, amidst rumors of a potential transfer in January.
