Singer Ed Sheeran, recipient of four Brit Awards and seven Grammys, has issued an apology for interrupting Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s live television interview. The incident occurred following Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Ipswich Town. Amorim, who was managing United for the first time, was engaged in a pitchside interview at Portman Road. The interview panel consisted of Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates, former United captain Roy Keane, ex-Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen, and former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp. Sheeran, a singer-songwriter and minority owner of Ipswich, approached the group and interrupted the discussion to greet Redknapp. Addressing Amorim, Sheeran remarked: “I don’t think he wants to speak to me.” He then added: “I love being back in the Premier League.” Following his brief interaction, Sheeran departed, and the interview proceeded. On Monday, Sheeran posted on Instagram, stating: “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday. Didn’t actually realise he was being interviewed at the time. Was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Great game, congrats on all involved.” Sheeran has been Ipswich’s primary shirt sponsor since 2021. This summer, he acquired a minority stake in the club after Ipswich secured consecutive promotions, earning their return to the Premier League this season. In the match itself, Marcus Rashford scored for United in the second minute, but Omari Hutchinson’s equaliser in the 43rd minute secured a point for Ipswich.
