An individual who defrauded a charitable organization of more than £6,000 has been given a 16-month suspended prison sentence. Police reported that Nathan King, 40, arranged a “staggering” quantity of taxi journeys, charging them to Jimmy’s night shelter in Cambridge, an establishment that had previously offered him support. King, a resident of Birdwood Road in Cambridge, illicitly used the charity’s charge code and an employee’s name to pay for these trips, which occurred between February and May. He admitted guilt to charges of fraud by false representation and breaching a suspended sentence order at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday. Detective Constable Luca Bellomo commented: “King booked a staggering and excessive number of journeys over a four-month period.” Det Con Bellomo further highlighted the shelter’s crucial role, stating: “The shelter is a vital lifeline for people living on the street and provides food, shelter and support for thousands of people across the city, including King himself.” He concluded by affirming the police’s commitment: “We take cases of fraud extremely seriously and will do our utmost to bring offenders before the courts and work with partner agencies to recoup losses for companies, charities and individuals.”
