The RSPCA has reported the discovery of two emaciated dogs, found abandoned by a roadside. A walker located the male and female lurchers outside the Hilltop Garden Centre in Little Clacton, Essex, on Thursday at 14:40 GMT. The individual transported the dogs to a veterinary clinic. The vet subsequently contacted the RSPCA due to the animals’ severe underweight condition, flea infestation, and a significant skin ailment. The charity, which has initiated an investigation and appealed for public information, confirmed that the dogs are now recovering and gaining weight. Upon their discovery, the RSPCA characterized the animals as “emaciated,” noting that their ribs and spines were “visibly protruding.” Inspector Jen Wildman commented: “Thankfully a walker found them and was able to help, otherwise I fear due to their poor condition they would have struggled to survive much longer.” She added, “They are now in our care and are so friendly and lovely. We have them on a strict diet to help slowly build up their weight and help them recover.” Wildman further stated, “All animals deserve our kindness and respect but instead of love and care, these dogs were left to fend for themselves at the side of a road.” The RSPCA highlighted an increase in animal abandonments during the festive period and has recently launched its Christmas Rescue campaign, urging public assistance.
