An individual has received a life sentence following the murder of a man with whom he had been socialising on the preceding evening. Allen Adeyemi Tejan, aged 40, was discovered with severe head trauma at a residence on Lily Street in Sunderland on April 24. He subsequently passed away in hospital the following day. Adrian Wright, 53, identified as the perpetrator, initially pleaded not guilty to murder but later altered his plea at Newcastle Crown Court. Wright had fled the location and disposed of his clothing. Following the sentencing, Adisatu Florisa Sulaiman, Mr Tejan’s mother, expressed that the loss of her sole son had left her “heartbroken.” She stated, “At my age, I was looking forward to my son getting married, settling down, and him giving me a befitting send-off – not me burying him.” She added, “The pain of his passing has left me heartbroken and it will stay with me until the last day of my life.” “I still live in the hope that this episode is one long nightmare that I will wake up from one day.” According to Northumbria Police, an investigation determined that Wright and Mr Tejan had been in the company of friends at the aforementioned address, located in the Millfield area of the city. They remained at the property overnight before Wright, who is of no fixed abode, initiated the assault on the subsequent morning. The sentencing included a directive that he must serve a minimum custodial period of 18 years and four months. Detective Chief Inspector Matt Steel commented, “This was a brutal and senseless murder, and I am pleased that Wright will now serve a lengthy custodial sentence.” He further stated, “There is absolutely no justification for the course of events, which has robbed Allen’s loved ones of a beloved son and friend.”
