Two individuals have received prison sentences for their involvement in violent disorder, which occurred during riots that erupted subsequent to the knife attack in Southport. Daniel Wilson, aged 19, residing at Birchen Road, Halewood, and Christopher Carney, aged 33, from Town Lane, Southport, faced sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday due to their participation in the extensive unrest. According to Merseyside Police, Wilson received a sentence of one year and eight months for violent disorder committed in Liverpool city centre, whereas Carney was sentenced to two years and five months for violent disorder in Southport. A spokesperson for the police stated that two additional individuals have been charged, and a teenager has been apprehended, as part of the continuing investigations into the disturbances. The riots commenced following a knife attack on 29 July at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class, which resulted in the deaths of Bebe King, aged six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, aged nine, and injuries to 10 other individuals. On 30 July, a substantial gathering assaulted police officers and inflicted damage near a mosque in Southport; subsequently, disorder spread to Liverpool and other parts of the nation. Police further indicated that a 40-year-old man from Southport has been charged with violent disorder in Southport and a racially-aggravated public order offence related to an unrelated incident. He has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 20 November. The spokesperson also mentioned that a 16-year-old male from Banks faces charges of violent disorder in Southport and possession of Class B drugs. He was conditionally bailed to attend Merseyside Youth Court on Tuesday, 12 November, according to their statement. Furthermore, another 16-year-old male from Southport was apprehended on suspicion of violent disorder in Southport and has also been conditionally bailed. The police spokesperson confirmed that these actions bring the cumulative number of arrests to 139, with 96 individuals charged and 78 people sentenced to an aggregate of 164 years and five months.
