The individual managing a sanctuary for “un-rehomeable” dogs has launched an appeal for assistance in locating a new facility, aiming to prevent the euthanasia of a group of these animals. Alison Clark, who operates Chadkirk Dog Sanctuary in Stockport, Greater Manchester, has dedicated the past decade to caring for dogs rendered homeless due to trauma and behavioral issues. However, Ms. Clark stated that most of the 30 dogs currently under her care will face euthanasia if she cannot secure a new location for the sanctuary by 31 December. This is because her current lease is expiring, and she has been unable to find an alternative site. Ms. Clark remarked: “There’s nothing more appreciative than a dog giving love. They’re my life.” She further added: “Some of the dogs here, they trust me. They wont have anybody else near them.” She highlighted the critical situation, stating, “There’s nowhere else for them to go – every shelter in England is absolutely brimming with dogs at the minute.” Many of the dogs in her care were rescued from being put down after being abandoned by their owners, she explained. For instance, Hope, a German Shepherd, was discovered abandoned in a car. Ms. Clark noted: “She’s put on 10kg. She was an absolute bag on bones, ear infection, fleas. She’s had a long journey.” She urged landowners with existing kennels or those with suitable stables that could be converted into kennels to make contact. She elaborated: “It’s very difficult to find premises for sanctuary dogs without close neighbours, they’ve got to have room to move around.” A crowdfunding page established to support the sanctuary has successfully raised over £47,000, a sum Ms. Clark indicated would be a significant aid in financing a potential relocation. She commented: “We can’t believe the amount that’s been raised.” For further content, listeners can access the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
