Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, in comments made to BBC Radio Manchester, stated he lacked clear answers regarding the recent game. He acknowledged that the goals conceded were understandable in terms of how they happened, but described the overall situation the team was in as “a bit unexplainable.” Gundogan concluded, “There is only ourselves to blame.” Gundogan further admitted, “I don’t know [what is going wrong].” He noted that teams can sometimes struggle and concede chances against any opponent, as all opponents are capable. However, he specifically highlighted the team’s failure to maintain control after establishing a 3-0 lead, remarking, “But at 3-0 up we were controlling the game and then we gave it away so easily.” He characterized the opposition as “ruthless.” Gundogan reiterated the team’s culpability, adding, “We are to blame but they punished us in every situation they got and it is obviously very tough to take.”
