Colchester United’s manager, Danny Cowley, has acknowledged his team is “in a difficult moment” after experiencing two consecutive home losses in League Two. The U’s suffered a 2-1 defeat against Salford City on Saturday, which followed a loss by an identical score to Cheltenham Town a week prior. The team has not secured a league victory since 21 September and has accumulated merely three points from their most recent six matches, placing them 21st in the standings. Speaking to BBC Essex Sport, Cowley stated: “The two goals we conceded (against Salford) were very soft, it’s so frustrating.” He further elaborated, “When you have the amount of injuries that we have in the attacking areas, it’s always going to be tough for us to find fluidity and find goals, but if you have that, then you have to keep the back door shut.” Colchester’s highest league finish in the past four seasons has been 15th, a factor contributing to the appointment of Cowley and his brother Nicky, who serves as assistant, in January on two-and-a-half year contracts. At the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, they were just three points above the relegation zone, and this season, they have secured only two victories in 13 games to date. Cowley commented, “We are pretty wafer thin at the moment with attacking options.” He added, “But we knew we’d need to freshen it up (against Salford) because for the third game in a week, they always get tired and you have to be prepared to impact it.” Colchester will now pause league play to focus on Saturday’s FA Cup first round match, which will be played away against Swindon Town. Cowley further stated: “We have to go away and we have to reflect and we all have to look at ourselves and see how we can contribute to helping the team.” He concluded, “There’s no hiding place, we are in a difficult moment, we’ve lost some pace and athleticism at the top end of the pitch and sold a lot of athleticism in the summer, and that leaves you pretty short. That’s where we find ourselves at the minute.” Post navigation Andros Townsend Rejects Excuses for Manchester City’s Performance Aston Villa Manager Robert de Pauw Addresses Performance Pressure
