Hummingbird Cafe, located within Meeting Point House in Telford, is extending its “pay it forward” program for the Christmas period, providing gifts to less fortunate visitors. This initiative aims to bring cheer to individuals requiring assistance. The established “pay it forward” system allows patrons to purchase a hot beverage or meal for a subsequent visitor who may be unable to afford it. For the holiday season, this concept is being adapted to include practical gifts, such as clothing and toiletries, for those in need. Meeting Point House, a substantial facility, hosts numerous charitable organizations that serve the local community. These include the Telford CAP Debt Centre; Stay, an organization offering housing solutions for homeless individuals; and Telford Stars, which provides support to people dealing with addiction. Wayne Jenson, the Chief Executive Officer of Meeting Point House, noted that approximately 50% of the cafe’s patrons are repeat customers. Mr. Jenson stated, “The cafe team had a fantastic idea to have some Christmas presents under the tree, so that [people in need] could have something for them.” He further added, “We’ve got a range of simple things… hats, gloves, socks, toiletries.” Additionally, the cafe is inviting customers to donate presents for distribution. Mr. Jenson remarked, “Christmas is such a fantastic time of the year, we all want a present at the end of the day, and it’s just our way of trying to give a little bit back.” He also emphasized the increased significance of the “pay it forward” initiative during colder weather. “With the cold weather, it’s crucial to us that we can support local people that are not in a position to perhaps get a hot drink or a hot meal,” he explained. He continued, “We are very fortunate that our customers have taken it on board, and they pay it forward.” “There’s a big requirement for it,” he concluded.
