Nottinghamshire batting prospect Freddie McCann has agreed to a contract extension, committing him to the club until the conclusion of the 2027 season. This agreement follows his career-best score of 154 against champions Surrey at Trent Bridge. The 19-year-old made his first-class debut this summer, accumulating 358 runs across five County Championship appearances, which included two centuries. Furthermore, he participated in eight matches in the 50-over One-Day Cup and recorded 48 runs from 32 balls against Yorkshire at Headingley during his only T20 Blast innings. McCann commented, “I worked hard through the winter to soak up as much information as I could, so that when I got my chance I could make it count, and I feel as if I did that.” He further stated, “Making contributions to the team I’ve grown up supporting and playing for is really special, and I’m pleased that I’ll be able to do that for a while yet.” McCann also bowls off-spin, though he has secured only three wickets across all formats to date. Head coach Peter Moores remarked, “It’s been great to watch him grow so quickly as a player. His performances have been really impressive – he’s shown he can handle pressure in some crucial innings, especially in the County Championship. He is calm and determined, with a maturity beyond his years.”
