A man has been taken into custody following the death of a man in his 60s at a hotel situated in County Laois, Republic of Ireland. Gardaí, the Irish police, reported that they were summoned to the hotel shortly before 20:00 local time on Tuesday. Irish broadcaster RTÉ has identified the establishment as Ballyfin Demense, a five-star hotel located within a 614-acre estate near the Slieve Bloom mountains. RTÉ indicated its understanding that the arrested man, who is in his 30s, had been travelling with the individual who died. The Gardaí have characterized the death as a fatal assault and confirmed they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the incident. An incident room has been established at Portlaoise Garda Station, and a family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the family of the deceased man.
