British driver Oliver Bearman is set to replace Kevin Magnussen for the duration of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend. Magnussen, a Dane, was compelled to withdraw from the event due to illness. Bearman is also slated to drive full-time for Haas in the upcoming season. Initially, the 19-year-old driver was designated solely for Friday’s practice sessions and Saturday’s early sprint race. However, on Friday evening, the team announced that Bearman would continue to pilot Magnussen’s car for the rest of the weekend’s events. Bearman secured the 10th qualifying position for the sprint race, scheduled for 14:00 UK time on Saturday. This placed him two positions ahead of his regular teammate, Nico Hulkenberg. The British driver is confirmed to join Haas full-time next season, at which point Frenchman Esteban Ocon will also transfer to the team from Alpine. This event in Brazil marks Bearman’s second competitive outing for Haas across five Grands Prix; his previous appearance involved substituting for Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix due to Magnussen’s ban for accumulating excessive penalty points on his licence.
