Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has indicated that goalkeeper Callum Burton, who arrived at the club on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 2024, might be sidelined for the remainder of the current season because of an injury. The injury, a torn thigh, occurred early during Wrexham’s 1-0 victory against Barnsley earlier in the week. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was absent from Saturday’s 1-0 triumph at Burton Albion, with Parkinson stating: “It’s very bad news, I’m so disappointed for him. It’s going to be a long injury, it could be the season.” Burton, a former Plymouth keeper, had been given an opportunity in the team following Arthur Okonkwo’s six-week absence due to a broken wrist. Consequently, veteran Mark Howard stepped in, making his initial league start in more than a year. Wrexham has secured Brad Foster on a short-term agreement to provide goalkeeping cover, yet Parkinson expressed a desire to acquire an additional goalkeeper. Parkinson further commented: “We’re looking at the goalie situation all the time. We’ve got three keepers out if you count Luke McNicholas. I thought Mark did brilliant again today. He’s an experienced keeper and he did really well in difficult conditions.” Elliot Lee secured Wrexham’s winning goal directly from a corner kick against Burton, a result that elevates Parkinson’s team to joint top position in League One alongside Wycombe. The match at the Pirelli Stadium took place amidst challenging conditions on a day when Storm Darragh led to the cancellation of sporting events across Wales. Notwithstanding the severe weather, more than 1,600 Wrexham supporters made the trip to Burton, prompting Parkinson to remark: “Amazing, just amazing. Coming out of Wales with how bad the weather’s been and to get that support today and the way they backed the lads was outstanding. I’m pleased for every single one of them who made the jpourney.” Post navigation St Mirren vs Ross County: Key Match Statistics Zhang Achieves Maximum 147 Break at UK Championship
