Mauro Icardi joined Galatasaray in 2023 from Paris St-Germain. The Galatasaray forward could miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during their Europa League triumph over Tottenham. The Argentina international, 31, was stretchered off the pitch with five minutes left in his side’s 3-2 victory, which occurred in Istanbul on Thursday. Icardi collapsed in pain while attempting to challenge a pass from Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster. The Turkish club has stated that the former Paris St-Germain striker will now undergo “pre-operative rehabilitation” prior to an operation on his right knee. The typical recovery period for anterior cruciate ligament tears ranges from six to nine months. Icardi initially arrived in Turkey in 2022 on a season-long loan agreement from Paris St-Germain, making his move permanent a year later. He has accumulated 61 goals in 86 appearances for the Istanbul-based club.
