London Liverpool Street has once again been designated Britain’s busiest railway station, as new figures indicate a significant surge in passenger numbers over the past year. The Office of Rail and Road reported an estimated 94.5 million entries and exits at the station between March 2023 and March 2024. This figure marks a 17.5% increase from the 80.4 million recorded in the preceding year. The rise in passenger traffic is attributed to the increased utilization of the Elizabeth line. London Paddington maintained its standing as the second busiest station. Tottenham Court Road, which is exclusively served by Elizabeth line trains, advanced from seventh to third place, registering 64.2 million passenger entries and exits. In contrast, Denton in Greater Manchester was identified as the least-used railway station, with only 54 entries and exits recorded over the last year. The Elizabeth line extends from Reading, in Berkshire, and Heathrow Airport, in west London, to Abbey Wood, in south-east London, and Shenfield, in Essex. The line commenced operations in May 2022.
