Former Shrewsbury Town striker Andy Mangan is reportedly a contender for the Salop head coach position, according to BBC Radio Shropshire. Mangan has previously served in coaching capacities at Accrington Stanley and Bristol Rovers. The 38-year-old played for Shrewsbury at the Meadow during two periods between 2014 and 2016. He currently holds an assistant role at Stockport County. Last season, he served as Bristol Rovers’ caretaker manager for seven games, securing four victories, two draws, and one defeat. League One side Shrewsbury is seeking a new manager following the dismissal of Paul Hurst last weekend. Hurst’s departure occurred after their FA Cup defeat by Salford City. In September, Mangan’s potential transfer to Real Madrid was prevented due to the refusal of a work permit. He represents the second former Shrewsbury player to be associated with the vacant position. Ryan Lowe, who previously managed Preston and Plymouth, was put forward as an ideal candidate by his former team-mate Jamie Tolley. Town, having secured only one victory in their last 12 matches across all competitions, currently ranks 23rd in League One. They are scheduled to face managerless bottom club Burton Albion this Saturday.
