Former Premier League defender Micah Richards has expressed his conviction that it is “imperative” for Liverpool to secure a new contract for Mo Salah. The Egyptian forward recently scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season on Saturday against Brighton, a feat that saw him overtake Robbie Fowler to become the eighth highest scorer in the competition’s history. Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Richards commented: “There’s been talk about contracts and whether he’s going to renew or not – they have got to sign him. It’s imperative to give him a two year deal at the end of the season. He’ll be 33 in the summer, it’ll take him to 35. He doesn’t have to play well to score big goals and have big moments. That is the difference between a very good player and a top player.”
