Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has stated that Wolves’ comeback against Brighton, recovering from a two-goal deficit, could prove to be “an absolutely huge point” for their prospects of remaining in the top-flight this season. The 2-2 draw enabled Gary O’Neil’s team to move from the bottom of the table, with Shearer commending their “fight” during his analysis on Match of the Day. “That could be an absolutely huge point,” Shearer remarked. He elaborated, stating, “If Gary O’Neil needed any evidence that his players are still with him, fighting for him and on the same page as him – the evidence is there in this game.” Shearer further highlighted the positive aspect of the team’s resilience: “When there are 88 minutes on the clock and you are 2-0 down but your players are still fighting like they were doing for him and the football club, then that is a huge positive.” Shearer also pointed out that despite the club having sacked their set-piece coach a few weeks prior, a set-piece proved effective for them in this match, leading to a 2-1 scoreline at 88 minutes. He described the moment, saying, “You were sat there thinking: ‘They can’t do it, can they?’ But then all of a sudden they were pushing forward.” The former striker reiterated the immense importance of this point for Wolves, especially considering their upcoming schedule. He noted, “Three of their next four games are at home, against teams you would think they have got a really good chance of starting their season against.” Shearer concluded that following a challenging run of fixtures, “now their season has to start as of next weekend after getting a huge point against Brighton.” Post navigation Manchester City’s FA Cup Third Round Opponent Confirmed Frank Lampard Praises Coventry City’s ‘Character’ and ‘Personality’ Following First Victory
