Manchester City’s manager, Gareth Taylor, has stated that the club is still awaiting the outcome of Alex Greenwood’s scan following a knee injury sustained on Thursday. The captain of City was removed from the field on a stretcher during the first half of their 2-0 Champions League victory against St Polten, after an unusual collision involving St Polten’s Melanie Brunnthaler. Taylor commented, “The game was really late by the time it finished and late before I made contact with Alex.” He added, “She was ok but we are awaiting the results of her scan and are continuing to assess her.” Taylor expressed hope for her recovery, stating, “Hopefully she is ok because she has been crucial to what we have done not just this season but seasons past. Our thoughts are with Alex and we hope it’s a speedy one.” Additional significant points from Taylor’s news conference, held prior to Sunday’s Women’s Super League match against Everton (scheduled for a 12:30 GMT kick-off), include the following: Bunny Shaw, who was absent from Thursday’s game, has consulted a specialist regarding a lower leg injury and “needs more extensive investigation.” Taylor remarked, “Similar to Alex, we are waiting for more medical information before we can hatch a plan.” Despite Manchester City’s increasing number of injured players, Taylor affirmed that he will not cite injuries as a justification. He stated, “We are missing big players. I have not hid away from that. We are having a tough time at the minute with injuries but there is no whinging about it at all from anyone.” Taylor commended Lily Murphy for scoring her inaugural senior goal on Thursday, adding, “She was exciting to watch, had really good opportunities and probably could have scored a hat-trick. Really pleased she got a goal because that will give her a lot of confidence.”
