Healthcare facilities are requesting assistance from patients due to a significant influx of visitors. Specifically, Hull Royal Infirmary has advised patients attending A&E to be accompanied by only one relative, aiming to alleviate congestion within the department. Concurrently, NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has urged individuals to “use services appropriately” and explore alternative sources for guidance and support if their condition does not necessitate emergency or life-saving medical intervention. Emergency departments typically experience heightened activity during this period due to winter pressures. Hull Royal Infirmary issued a statement, noting: “The Emergency Department is really busy today, so we’re asking patients and their families to help us.” The statement continued, “We understand you may be worried but please delegate one member of your family to update other relatives to help us free up space in our department.” Healthcare facilities throughout Lincolnshire are experiencing comparable pressures, notably with numerous children presenting at A&E departments due to respiratory issues. A representative from NHS Lincolnshire ICB commented: “Local A&Es and Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) are very busy, so we’re asking people to use services appropriately and look to other sources of help and advice, such as NHS 111 and community pharmacies for anything that isn’t life-threatening or an emergency, such as colds, ear aches and sore throats.” Guidance has been disseminated by the NHS concerning the management of breathing difficulties or noisy breathing in children.
