Following Southampton’s loss to Aston Villa, Russell Martin shared his thoughts with BBC Match of the Day. He expressed disappointment regarding the defeat and specifically the goal conceded. Martin noted that his team had more presence in the final third than their opponents, displaying periods of good football and creating two clear scoring opportunities that ultimately yielded no result. He stated, “The guys are trying, giving everything. That’s all we can ask for.” However, he also identified a deficiency in “conviction and quality of decision making in the final third.” Martin attributed some challenges to numerous team alterations, though he commended the strong performance of the two centre-backs. He acknowledged that the changes had somewhat impacted the team, but stressed that the goal conceded was “poor.” He further elaborated, “If we concede a good one then we can say OK but the goals we’re conceding it’s not good enough.” Regarding Nathan Wood, Martin remarked, “Brilliant bit of one v one defending at the end. We understand the potential he has and he’ll be a good Premier League player in my opinion.” He observed that the match became overly disorganized towards its conclusion as Southampton pushed for an equalizer. Martin explained, “We had to try and find a goal from somewhere so we had a lot of attacking players on the pitch and that probably didn’t suit us.” Post navigation Player Availability Updates for Kilmarnock and Aberdeen Glasgow Warriors Announce Seven Squad Changes for Champions Cup Fixture Against Toulon
