Faith Whitaker, a 93-year-old woman, achieved her long-held aspiration of riding in a police patrol car, fulfilling a Christmas wish. With assistance from Lancashire Police, Ms. Whitaker experienced a ride through her Helmshore neighbourhood. The Rossendale Neighbourhood Policing Team for Lancashire described their involvement as “fantastic.” Ms. Whitaker, a resident of Helmshore for the last 14 years, characterized the experience as “brilliant” and surpassing her expectations. She stated: “I’ve been looking forward to this, and I had a great time being out and about with the officers.” She added: “Thank you so much to all of you for making my day.” To realize her ambition, Ms. Whitaker, who relocated to Rossendale over 30 years ago from her original home in the Lake District, Cumbria, received a visit from PC Nigel Baxter, PCSO Keely Dermody, and PCSO Kirsty Bolton. PCSO Keely Dermody commented: “When we were told that it was her dream to be taken out in a police car we knew we wanted to make it happen.” Dermody further noted: “She was super excited to be able to get the opportunity, as she’s always wanted to be a police officer, and her daughter was thrilled we were able to give Faith the chance to live out her dream.” Ms. Whitaker explained her desire to ride in a police car stemmed from her enjoyment of watching television police programs, such as Police Interceptors.
