Charges have been filed against a 92-year-old man in connection with the rape and murder of an elderly woman, an incident that had remained unsolved for almost six decades. The victim, Louisa Dunne, who was 75 years old, was discovered strangled on her living room floor by a neighbour on Brittania Road in Easton, Bristol, on 28 June 1967. Ryland Headley, residing at Clarence Road, Ipswich, made an appearance before magistrates through a video link and has been remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday. According to Avon and Somerset Police, the charge follows a review of the case initiated in 2023, which led to additional forensic examination of certain items. Mr. Headley, accompanied by his solicitor, was not required to enter pleas regarding the two charges he faces. His only statements were to confirm his name, date of birth, and address. Detective Inspector Dave Marchant stated: “This development marks a hugely significant moment in this investigation.” He further emphasized: “Now criminal proceedings are under way it’s important to stress the defendant has the right to a fair trial.” He also added: “Any speculation or misinformation on the circumstances of this case has the potential to prejudice these ongoing proceedings.” “We’ve updated Louisa’s family about this charging decision and a specialist liaison officer will continue to support them in the coming days, weeks and months.” Post navigation Steven Lee Imprisoned for Child Abuse Spanning 35 Years Police to Intensify Patrols Against Drink-Driving in Jersey
