A 92-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and rape, linked to the death of a woman in Bristol 57 years ago. Louisa Dunne, who was 75, was discovered deceased at her residence on Brittania Road, Easton, by a neighbour on June 28, 1967. Avon and Somerset Police reported that a review of the case commenced in 2023, which included additional forensic analysis of certain items. Subsequently, an individual from Ipswich was arrested on Tuesday morning. The police force indicated that this arrest stems from a “significant development in the investigation”. Detective Inspector Dave Marchant commented: “This is an extremely significant moment in an appalling and distressing case which has remained unsolved for almost six decades.” He added, “We recognise this will also come as a shock to the community in Easton.” Det Insp Marchant noted that despite the passage of many years since the incident, there might be individuals who recall the murder or have connections to Ms Dunne’s family. He confirmed that Ms Dunne’s next of kin have been informed of this development and are receiving support from specialist family liaison officers. Det Insp Marchant also stated that the public might observe “operational police activity in the Ipswich area” following the arrest.
