Police have reported the death of an 84-year-old man following a collision that led to the closure of the A1 in Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred at approximately 07:00 GMT when the man, who was a pedestrian, was struck by a vehicle close to the Applegreen Muskham services. He was declared deceased at the site of the collision. Initially, the southbound carriageway between the A57 and B6325 junctions was closed, followed shortly by the closure of the entire dual carriageway. According to the police force, the southbound carriageway between North Muskham and Carlton-on-Trent continues to be closed while investigation work proceeds. Sgt Mark Baker, who is part of Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, issued a statement: “This was an upsetting incident for everyone involved and we are currently working to understand what happened. The man’s family has now been informed and our thoughts are with them at what we know will be a very difficult time.” Diversion routes have been established via the A614 and A616, and motorists are being advised to adhere to road signage instead of relying on satellite navigation systems.
