An 84-year-old man has appeared before a court, facing a charge of murdering his wife at their residence in Galashiels. Margaret Hanson, also aged 84, was discovered deceased at the property on Wood Street after law enforcement was summoned around 03:00 on Monday. Her husband, John Hanson, a retired nurse, attended a private session at Selkirk Sheriff Court where he was formally charged with her murder. He did not enter a plea, and the legal proceedings were postponed for additional investigation. He was ordered to be held in custody and is scheduled to return to court within the next eight days.
