The head teacher of the school attended by a 10-year-old girl who died after an attack by her family’s pet dog has characterized the child as a “model student.” Savannah Bentham sustained severe injuries during the incident near Malton in North Yorkshire on Friday and passed away at the location. Rachel Wells, who serves as the head of West Heslerton C of E Primary School, stated that the school community had lost a young girl “who came to school every day with a smile for everyone and lots of lively chatter.” Police have confirmed that the dog, which the BBC understands to be an XL Bully type, will be euthanized. Ms. Wells conveyed that the school community requires time to comprehend the events and will recall a girl “full of joy.” She further stated: “Savannah was a model student who loved learning and was a friend to everyone.“Her family are in our thoughts and prayers, and we will support the school and wider community in any way we can.” Previously, in a statement, Savannah’s family expressed that they were “utterly shocked and devastated” by the passing of their “wonderful girl.” They also added: “We thank everyone for their support and kindness as we struggle to come to terms with our loss.“We ask that our family’s privacy is respected while we grieve for Savannah.”” The police force had previously stated that its investigation suggested the attack was “out-of-character” and that the girl and the dog shared “a close, loving relationship.” According to a police spokesperson, a post-mortem examination for Savannah was conducted on Sunday evening, and an inquest into her death is scheduled to be opened at a subsequent date. The spokesperson affirmed: “We are conducting detailed inquiries covering all aspects of the incident.” Post navigation Tribunal Hears of Subjectivity in Police Access to Everard Case Files Police investigate suspicious death of 53-year-old man
